OfSTED Inspection of Brooke Weston City Technology College
12 - 16 November 2001
Action Plan
In response to the recent OfSTED Inspection the College is required to respond to the two Key Issues detailed in the Inspection Report.
As noted by the inspectors, attending to these issues is already addressed in our own 'Development Plan'.
The OfSTED comments are given below, together with our response.
1. Years 11 to 16
'OfSTED: Aim to maintain equally high standards in each subject at GCSE by continuing to monitor teaching and standards closely in all subjects.
Ensure that subject leadership is consistently effective and continue to support staff and students to achieve highly.'
The report notes, in paragraphs 29 and 30 that ensuring that students continue to be offered the very best education in all subjects is already a part of the College's 'Development Plan'.
Our plan, which meets OfSTED's recommendations, includes a commitment to:
- Monitor and evaluate the work of all subject departments using our own internal review procedure which is cited by OfSTED as an example of good practice in their publication, 'Evaluation Matters';
- Further develop the use of management information to aid the early identification of problem areas;
- Support, in particular, any departments in which standards need further improvement through the work of the attached vice-principal;

Continue the 'special friends' initiative for students in Year 11 in need of particular support.
Governors will continue to monitor these arrangements and their effectiveness.
2. Sixth Form
'OfSTED: Raise the good standards attained in AS and A level examinations further, by continued effective monitoring of teaching and standards of attainment.
Ensure that students are well advised about the demands of the courses that they chose to study and provide courses well suited to their needs.'
- As detailed above we will continue to monitor the work of departments, evaluating success and providing support to ensure improvement where needed.

In paragraph 67 of the main report OfSTED judge that, 'students receive good induction and suitable guidance when they join the sixth form'.
We will, therefore continue to ensure that students are well advised about the demands of the courses that they chose to study and ensure that our procedures are carefully monitored to ensure that they are as effective as possible.

We will, as part of our 'Development Plan' continue to evaluate the courses offered in the sixth form.
As far as resources allow, we will introduce, where needed new courses to ensure that suitable courses are available for all students wishing to continue into the sixth form.
