Student Dress
1. Policy Statement
1.1
The Academy will have high expectations of everyone who attends it. The Academy expects all students in Year 7 to 11 to attend the Academy wearing school uniform and to have the approved sports kit for PHF lessons.
1.2
In the Sixth form students should dress in smart clothes suitable to the modern business environment. The choice of style is obviously left to the individual but it is expected that the overall impression is business like in keeping with the ethos and expectations of the Academy.
1.3
Any non school uniform items such as outdoor coats are expected to conform to the high standards of dress from all students.
2. Who does this policy apply to?
2.1
This policy applies to all Academy students. The Academy recognises the diversity of cultures, religions and disabilities of its students and will take a sensitive approach when this affects dress and uniform requirements.
3. Who is responsible for carrying out this policy?
3.1
The implementation of this policy will monitored by the governors of the Academy and remain under constant review by a designated Vice Principal.
3.2
All students are expected to conform to this policy and all members of the Academy staff are expected to be proactive in implementing this policy by challenging any student who does not conform.
4. What are the principles behind this policy?
4.1
The Academy is committed to providing a high quality learning environment which promotes positive attitudes in every aspect of its operation. The Academy firmly believes that the way in which students present themselves in school has an effect on their self-esteem, their behaviour and their attitude towards learning.
4.2
The Academy considers correct wearing and provision of the uniform to be a minimum commitment required of every student and their parents/guardians.
5. Procedures
5.1
In Years 7 - 11 the uniform will be as follows:
- White shirt
- Academy tie
- Black skirt or trousers
- Black shoes (not trainers)
Any accessories worn should be sensible and safe for the Academy environment.
5.2
In the Sixth form the dress code will be as follows:
- Smart trousers , dresses or skirts
- Formal shirts and blouses
- Formal leather type shoes, sandals or boots
- Plain belts - no studs
All clothing should provide sufficient and decent coverage and under no circumstances should underwear be visible outside clothing.
Any accessories worn should be sensible and safe for the Academy environment.
5.3
Students in any year who do not conform to the Academy's uniform and dress code may be required to return home and change.
6. Policy Review
6.1
This policy will be reviewed annually as part of the Academy's internal review process.
