The Academy is committed to enabling students to contribute to the life of the Academy and to take responsibility for their education and development. In pursuit of this aim, the Academy will not only consider the views of students but actively seek their views on a range of issues.

This policy applies to all Academy students
3. Who is responsible for carrying out this policy?
3.1
The implementation of this policy will be monitored by the governors of the Academy and remain under constant review by a designated Vice Principal.
4. What are the principles behind this policy?
4.1
The Academy recognises that students are important stakeholders in the Academy and as such should be able to contribute to decision making which affects their education both in and out of the classroom.
4.2
Students should recognise not only their rights and responsibilities. Being active participants in the life of the Academy will help students to develop and awareness of both.
4.3
The Academy's Period 1 curriculum will support the development of skills which will enable all students to participate effectively as members of the Academy community.
5. Procedures
5.1
Each tutor group will nominate a representative who will meet as Year group student forums on a termly basis with the Principal to discuss issues that are relevant to that particular year group.
5.2
The Academy will actively seek the views of the whole student population on a wide range of its operations through an annual questionnaire.
5.3
Students will be encouraged to contribute to the Academy's annual review process during conversations in lesson observations and individual focus groups established for a specific purpose.
5.4
Departments will also seek the views of students on curriculum issues either through the use of questionnaires or focus groups.

At all times students are actively encouraged to voice their opinions, queries or concerns through their tutor, a Head of Department, a Vice Principal or direct with the Principal.
6. Policy Review
6.1
This policy will be reviewed annually as part of the Academy's internal review process.
