If students successfully progress to the A2 level, they may complete an additional three modules: Literary Connections: this is an investigative study involving the comparison of two novels; Texts in Time (Poetry and Drama), assessed under 'closed book' conditions and Reading for Meaning. This last module will assess the students' analytical skills and their ability to deal with 'unseen' texts. Texts will be connected with the theme of 'War' with particular emphasis on writing from the First World War.
English Literature at AS and A2 level is usually essential for students planning to take higher education courses in Communication Studies, Drama, English Language and Literature, Journalism, Librarianship, Media Studies and Theatre Studies.
English Literature support is provided throughout the course by core teaching, regular assessments and individual tutorials. Students will need to be dedicated, capable of independent investigation and committed to a heavy reading schedule. This course gives students the opportunity to study a wide range of texts from different literary genres and periods of time.
