Ross Page and Matthew Brown have set up their own DJ business staging discos for weddings, parties and special occasions. They set up R&M Discos earlier this year and have around 30,000 songs including the latest chart releases as well as a massive sound system that generates 9,000 watts at peak capacity!

The duo, both from Corby, purchased equipment with proceeds from their day jobs with Ross working on a market at weekends while Matthew does gardening. It takes an hour and a half for them to set up all the kit, which includes DMX lights that synchronise with the music, as well as smoke and bubble machines.

Ross started as a DJ a couple of years ago while Matthew is relatively new to the business. They already have lots of satisfied customers with testimonials and repeat bookings. Some of the forthcoming jobs they have coming up is a masquerade ball for 600 people at Wicksteed Park and a wedding in Derbyshire.

Matthew said: 'We've got the largest set-up in the Northants area and charge £35 an hour which is £10 cheaper than any other DJ in the area. For charity events we do it for a lot less, and try to be very competitive.' They spend around £50 each month buying the latest chart music although early classics are still very popular with Ross and Matthew running themed 80s nights.

To really get the dance-floor filled they play action songs like YMCA and Cha Cha Slide and match the tracks to the mood of the crowd, gradually increasing the intensity before playing slower music to end the evening. The current most popular track is 'Baby' by Justin Bieber which gets requested a lot by girls, while boys tend to ask for rap music from the charts by groups like N-Dubz.

Ross said: 'As we have so many songs we can generally play whatever people request, but it tends to be chart music. Although I prefer doing discos for those aged between 13 and 20 we don't mind doing parties for younger people as well. There's a whole range we cater for.'
