Year 9 Multi Agency Day

Year 9 students learn about the consequences of serious crime

Year 9 students at Brooke Weston Academy recently took part in a powerful and thought-provoking Multi-Agency Day, designed to educate young people about the consequences of serious crime and the support available to those affected by it.

The event was part of an early intervention initiative aligned with Northamptonshire Police’s matters of priority, including drug harm, violence against women and girls, and serious violent crime. The day featured a series of engaging workshops delivered by professionals from a range of partner organisations, including the OPFCC Youth Service, the Youth Offending Service, NGAGE (drug support team), Northamptonshire Police, and the Magistrates Court.

Throughout the day, students rotated through sessions with each agency, gaining valuable insights into the roles these organisations play within the legal and social care systems. They explored how each service supports and advises young people and learned about the long-term impact that involvement in crime can have on their lives and futures.

Assistant Principal Mrs Schofield said, ‘The day was a great success, with Year 9 students fully engaged throughout. It began with an assembly introducing a fictional criminal case, which was then explored in depth by each agency. Students actively participated in the tasks set during each session, deepening their understanding of how a case unfolds and the workings of the criminal justice system. Our visitors were highly impressed by the students’ enthusiasm and involvement in every activity.’

This initiative forms part of Brooke Weston Academy’s commitment to providing students with meaningful learning experiences that extend beyond the classroom, equipping them with the knowledge and resilience to make informed decisions and stay safe in their communities.
