Sports leaders facilitate the Town Sports Athletics Championships

The Year 9 sports leaders facilitated the Primary Schools Town Sports Athletics Championships at Corby Triangle where they were responsible for running the track timekeeping, ordering the lanes and the overall scores.

More than 10 local schools took part in events which included a middle distance event, either 400m or 600m, a sprint of 50m and a vortex throw. The scores were added up and the Year 9 leaders presented the results for the overall, individual and team winner of the day.

The girls were fantastic at organising the event independently of any teachers and shared roles between them consisting of timekeepers, position and time collector, track officials and scorers. PE teacher Miss Barber said ‘The Sports Leaders make my job as a PE teacher easy and when I take them to a Sports Leader event nothing but positive comments are said. They are all so natural at helping and encouraging the primary students. These leaders are becoming well known amongst the primary schools and as a result of the great job that they do, we have had a number of primary schools ask if they can come in and run their primary sports day in the future. I hope these girls continue with their sports leadership and carry on teaching and inspiring those around them.’
