Brooke Weston achieves Youth Sport Trust Silver Quality Mark

Brooke Weston has been awarded the Youth Sport Trust Silver Quality Mark for our commitment to physical education (PE) and sport at school. The Youth Sport Trust is a national charity that is building a brighter future for young people through the power of sport.

The Quality Mark is an online self-review tool which provides schools with a nationally recognised award for the quality of their PE and school sport. The tool supports schools to audit their PE provision and identify priorities for their development.

All schools within the Brooke Weston Trust are working to complete the mark, which covers a range of areas: Vision Leadership and Management, High Quality Teaching and Learning Curriculum, Assessment and Teaching and Learning, High Quality School sport and Physical Activity and Whole School improvement

Schools are awarded Bronze, Silver or Gold status, which reflects their efforts in using PE and school sport to raise achievement across the school. PE teacher Miss Jodie Barber said ‘We are absolutely thrilled to receive the silver quality mark, however we are striving to achieve the gold quality mark. PE at Brooke Weston is constantly changing in accordance with the demands of the students coming to the school each year. A rise in technology usage by our students means our curriculum is adapting in order to bring their interests into lessons. One change for PE this year is a whole new assessment framework has been put in place to assess the whole student across their knowledge, effort and physical ability rather than focusing on just physical capabilities. With support and guidance from the other schools in the Trust it has meant that the teachers at Brooke Weston can work towards the gold quality mark to ensure the best possible opportunities are available for all students at Brooke Weston.’

Ali Oliver, Chief Executive at the Youth Sport Trust, said ‘Congratulations to Brooke Weston for achieving the Youth Sport Trust Silver Quality Mark. Schools, which achieve the Quality Mark, share our belief in the value of high quality PE and sport and the positive impact it has on young people’s journey through education.

‘PE and school sport helps young people to live healthy and active lives and through it, helps them achieve their personal best in school and life. We are delighted to be working with thousands of schools across the country that recognise the competitive advantage this gives to their students.’
