Callum Completes Three Peaks Rope Climb Challenge

Well done to Year 7 student Callum Morris, who along with his gymnastic squad, have just completed their challenge of 852 rope climbs; equivalent to the distance climbed in the iconic Three Peaks Challenge, to raise some desperately needed funds to allow their gym to purchase vital new equipment.

Callum is a member of Rugby Gymnastics Club, training with them for more than 20 hours each week and has been competing since he was eight years old. At his first National competitions in November this year, his team West Midlands, placed 8th and Callum was ranked 40th throughout the UK for his age group.  He is currently training for the London Open, and the English and British Championships that take place in 2022.

Callum said, ‘I love gymnastics because it develops strength, flexibility, balance, agility and coordination.  It has taught me that hard work, discipline and perseverance always pays off.  Plus, swinging, climbing, jumping, flipping…..is great fun!!! It was the idea of the coaches to do the rope challenge.  It involved 23 members of the squad climbing 852 ropes alongside our usual training schedule which has been pretty tough. The timescale was to complete the challenge between 6th and 12th December and we did this at the end of training on Saturday. We exceeded our target by achieving 882 rope climbs and I think we have all got lots of rope burns on our legs and hands! The money raised will help the club to buy some much needed new equipment. It will be a huge asset in helping our squads to learn and develop new skills needed to compete at the highest level possible.’

Thank you to everyone who has already sponsored Callum.  If you haven’t so far, but would like to donate, please use the link below.
