Where is the Library situated?
The library is situated in a purpose-built annexe in the downstairs purple block.
When can I use the Library?
At any time during the school day and after school.
The library is available for private study and research using both printed and online resources.
What will I find in the Library?
Besides a wide range of books, both fiction and non-fiction you will find:
- Magazines/periodicals
- Newspapers
- Desktops and laptops
- Audio books
- DVDs
- Kindles (and ebooks on the VLE)
- Online subscriptions (see Librarian or Library section of the VLE for username and passwords)
How can I find out what the Library has?
The Librarian will help you with any enquiries and the library has a computerised library catalogue (Access-It) which is available to staff and students. There is a tutorial on the library web site that explains in more detail how to use this.
The library is arranged according to the Dewey Decimal Classification Scheme. There are guides and posters to help you understand this.
What can I use the computers for?
You can use the computers for research purposes e.g. searching the Internet, coursework and email.
How do I join the Library?
Your ID card acts as your library card. The Librarian will check you are on the database at your library induction.
How many items can I borrow?
Students in years 7-11 can borrow up to four items for a period of three weeks.
Sixth formers can borrow up to eight items for a period of four weeks. Staff may borrow up to thirty items for four weeks for fiction, and eight weeks for non-fiction. Periodicals are short term loans, three days.
Reference books should not be taken out of the library. Books may be renewed or reserved on request.
Can I help in the Library?
The Librarian is always pleased to receive offers of help in the library. Opportunities include roles for student librarians and application forms are available from the Library if you wish to help on a regular basis.
