Year 12 student completes NLive Radio Traineeship
Year 12 student Weronika Lecka has completed her traineeship with NLive Radio; a Community Radio Station owned by the University of Northampton Enterprises Limited. Over the course of eight weeks, Weronika met with the NLive radio team in the studios and experienced presenting, interviewing and production development as part of the traineeship.
Weronika said, ‘The experience at NLive radio was very enjoyable, and it was great to meet new people. I am glad I had this opportunity and was able to learn all about behind the scenes of the industry. I also got to experience the pre-recording of programmes and had exercises on planning our own 1-hour show with adverts, links and types of music involved. We discussed different radio show styles such as vox pops/interviews and news. My favourite part was when I got to have a short conversation with one of the main presenters; Martin Steers, live on the radio. Alongside recording a live show, we also used the mixer buttons that turn on the microphone and play the next song, so we had an authentic experience of being a main presenter on the radio.
This traineeship opportunity has definitely opened another door for me, and a career in radio has now become an option and I would be interested in pursuing this and volunteering at university. The traineeship allowed me to experience a real working environment due to us being in the studio. After completing the first live interview with Martin Steers, presenting on live radio gradually became easier and helped me with confidence. I recorded some short audio of my friends answering a question regarding the 4-day working week and Martin aired all of them on his breakfast show, which was very exciting.’
