Year 11 students take on a half marathon for Lung Cancer Research
Good luck to our two Year 11 students, Toby Brooks and Neng Yang, who are taking on the challenge of running the Kettering Half Marathon on Sunday, 9th March, to raise vital funds for Lung Cancer Research, a charity dedicated to funding research into treatments for lung cancer.
The half marathon will start at Wicksteed Park, head into the town centre, and then proceed to the grounds of Boughton House before finishing back at Wicksteed.
Neng said, ‘We have chosen to do a half marathon for charity because we both did a lot of running last year and decided to take it to the next level and do a half marathon event. The reason we have picked this charity is that we both have a personal connection to it as we both have family members who have been impacted by this disease. In order to prepare for this half marathon, we have both been doing three runs per week, including a long zone 2 run, an interval run and a tempo run, as well as all the other sports we both take part in.’
Toby said, ‘The most challenging part of our training has been finding time to run with all of our other commitments and revision for our upcoming GCSE's. This will be our first charitable event, though we have taken part in many Kettering Park Runs. My PB half marathon is 1:53:48 and I would love to complete this race in under 1 hour 50 mins. Our initial fundraising target was to raise £500 but within six hours of posting our GoFundMe page we had already surpassed that so our new target is £700. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far, it means so much to us and our families.’
Thank you to everyone who has already sponsored Toby and Neng. If you would like to donate, please use this GoFundMe link.
