Charity Race for Life

Year 12 students show team spirit to ‘Be the Difference’ in Charity Race for Life

Ten of our Year 12 students have joined forces to take on the Race for Life: Pretty Muddy, at Northampton Abington Park on 12th July, to raise money for life-saving cancer research.

Race for Life has raised over £970 million towards life-saving cancer research since it began 30 years ago. The Year 12 team will take part under the team name ‘Scrambled Legs’ which was the idea of team leader Lilly Edwards, as they climb, crawl and slide their way around the Pretty Muddy 5k obstacle course.

Jocelyn Kadavan, said, ‘We were researching different fundraising opportunities in our local area and that is when we came across the Pretty Muddy Run, and we thought it would be a fun thing to do as a group whilst raising money.’

Elise Marston, added, ‘We decided to raise money for cancer research as we know a lot of people who have been affected by cancer. I had a cousin who unfortunately died at a young age due to cancer, so I want to raise awareness and help as many people as possible with the money raised.’

Kinuri Arachchige, said, ‘We chose to raise money for Cancer Research because many of us have seen first-hand how cancer affects people. My aunt has been battling breast cancer for some time now, and I am passionate about raising awareness and providing support through the funds we raise.’

Maddison Wiseman-Hay, shared, ‘I want to fundraise for this charity as I had a family member who had breast cancer and died a few years ago, and I want to raise awareness and help as many people as possible. I am starting my training after the mocks, and I am going to the gym and will run with some individuals from the group so we can help each other improve and track each other’s progress.’

Annelies Siddre, added, ‘For training, I've been working on getting a lot healthier. I joined the gym and learnt how to run, I started from not even being able to jog a kilometre to finishing my first 5k! Some of us are also starting to do park runs to get used to the distance. As an individual, I originally set a fundraising goal of £50 and have gone past that, so now it's £100, and as a team £1150.’

Our Year 12 students are truly embodying the spirit of ambition and making a difference in their community.
