The Brooke Weston Trust CCF contingent, which include cadets from Brooke Weston Academy, has featured in the latest magazine of ‘Cadet’ with their field weekend Expedition First Bite.
The yearly publication focuses on the achievements, travel opportunities, qualifications, and activities undertaken by members of the Army Cadet Force (ACF), Sea Cadet Corps (SCC), and Air Training Corps (ATC) across the six counties of the East Midlands.
The article focuses on the field exercise which provided introductory training in fieldcraft, camouflage and concealment, basic patrol skills, navigation, first aid, cadet air rifle., a night patrol and a light and noise demo at night.
It also features a photograph of instructor Mark Brooks from Corby Business Academy teaching navigation skills.
Kathryn McAuley, Head of Communications for the East Midlands Reserve Forces and Cadets Association said: ‘The Cadets organisations offer a unique combination of activities and opportunities to young people. Whether Army, Air Training Corps or Sea Cadets, they all offer training which is progressive and which is designed to promote teamwork, reliability and leadership. There are opportunities to achieve additional qualifications, and try out activities which otherwise would not be within reach, such as shooting, gliding or sailing. Cadets improves self-confidence, promotes the consideration of others and is a brilliant way to make friends. It helps individuals aspire to aim high, and gives them the skills, values and attitudes to go further in life, no matter what they do.'
