  • BWA Recruits New Student Library Helpers

    Published 26/10/21

Congratulations to our students in Years 7, 8 and 9 who have been successful in their application to join the Library team. A total of ten students have been recruited to help in the Library after a rigorous process which involved submitting an application form and taking part in an interview.

Librarian Wendy McCabe said: Being a student library helper is a great way for the students to provide valuable input into the development of the Library while getting some practical experience in a real working environment. There will be a full training programme which will cover the basics, such as learning how to shelve books correctly, including how the Dewey Decimal system works. They will then progress through various levels of skills, achieving Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum award levels. I am grateful to all the volunteers and their help is invaluable in making sure that the Library runs smoothly and at the same time helping raise the profile of the Library among their peers.’

    The successful candidates are:

Year 7: Leon, Ameera, Jesse, Emily, Ethan, Angel, Sitha and Lacey

    Year 8: Holden

    Year9: George

COVID-19 Vaccination for Children Aged 12 to 15

The vaccinations for Brooke Weston Academy have been allocated the 26th and 27th October 2021 by the school immunisation team.

The COVID-19 vaccine is being offered to all children aged 12 to 15 years of age. Your child has the opportunity to receive their first COVID-19 vaccine, and you may be notified about the second dose later.

For more information and to consent please see the letter below:

    NHS letter and Consent

Please discuss the vaccination with your child and then complete and return the COVID-19 consent form within 72 hours of receipt, so that we can review your child’s information before the scheduled school session. Your child’s health record will be updated with vaccine information if you consent, and your child receives the vaccination as planned.

We are aware that NHS England has advised that children may be offered the opportunity to self-consent, however, NHFT School Age Immunisation Service decided NOT to offer a self-consent option during the school-based session and ONLY children whose parents have given consent for them to receive the vaccine will be called to the vaccination session.

Please note that the Academy is just being used as a facilitator for this and the administration, and application, is provided by the NHS. For more information on COVID-19 and the school age vaccination programme please see the letter from the NHS below.
