BWA sixth form students graduate from the Empowered Females in STEM Programme
Congratulations to our seven Brooke Weston Academy sixth form students who have all graduated after successfully completing the Empowered Females in STEM programme.
The programme aims to educate, enable and empower young women and non-binary people to pursue a fulfilling STEM career. It is a National event sponsored by global STEM companies, including Pfizer; Facebook; Google; BP; Dyson; Salesforce; L’Oréal; Citrix; Colt; GE and UCB.
The students were selected to take part after submitting outstanding applications for one of the 300 places on offer; with over 1,300 students from schools across the UK applying.
Year 12 Teodora Marinescu said, ‘We participated in monthly masterclasses that taught us valuable skills needed to succeed in this sector and worked with experts in the field to tackle the Dyson project based learning challenge; solving a real-world STEM problem.
The programme not only allowed us to network with amazing members in the STEM industry, but also taught us about the numerous career paths available to us, and boosted our employability skills, so we can become valued members and leaders of the STEM community.
Thanks to the programme I was able to meet like-minded students who are just as passionate about Science and Mathematics, and learn from experts in diverse fields whose careers inspired me to pursue my interest in Mathematics and Engineering.’
