Inspiring the next generation: Foreign Language Leader Award in action
Students from Years 8 and 10 at Brooke Weston Academy recently took their language skills beyond the classroom as part of the Foreign Language Leader Award Elective, delivering engaging French and Spanish lessons to Key Stage 2 pupils at Oakley Vale Primary School.
This exciting initiative is designed to develop leadership skills while fostering a passion for Modern Foreign Languages. As part of their accreditation, students planned and led 15-minute lessons for children in Years 2, 3, and 6, an experience that proved both rewarding and transformative.
Initially, students were nervous about teaching and standing at the front of the class teaching students they had never met before. However, their confidence quickly grew.
Lucy Edwards in Year 10 said, ‘The children were very lovely to work with.’
Molly Hayes and Ivy Johnson in Year 8 added, ‘The students listened so well, and their behaviour was amazing.’
Year 10 students Niamh Brennan and Olivia Sendecka said ‘It was an amazing experience, and it has helped to grow our confidence.’
MFL teacher Mrs Pasdoit praised the collaboration, saying, 'Thank you to Oakley Vale Primary for accommodating the BWA students. It’s been a fantastic opportunity for them to apply their learning in a real-world setting.’
Congratulations to all our Language Leaders for their dedication and enthusiasm!
