Year 9 student shines at Warhammer World Events
We are incredibly proud of Year 9 student Dylan Maddams, who has recently achieved outstanding success in a series of competitive Warhammer 40,000 events—demonstrating not only strategic skill but also creativity and sportsmanship.
Dylan recently took first place in an Open Warhammer 40K Narrative Event, competing against both children and adults. Impressively, he went undefeated throughout the tournament, showcasing his tactical prowess and deep understanding of the game.
In addition, Dylan represented the Brook Weston Trust at the Warhammer 40K Narrative Schools Alliance Event held at Warhammer World in Nottingham. While other schools competed in teams of up to eight students, Dylan entered as a solo competitor and still managed to finish in 4th place, narrowly missing out on 2nd by just one win.
These events are part of the Warhammer Alliance programme, which supports schools and clubs in using the Warhammer hobby to develop a wide range of skills. From mathematics and engineering to literacy, art, and design, the programme helps young people build confidence, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities through gaming, painting, and storytelling.
Dylan also had the exciting opportunity to meet Black Library authors and Games Workshop painters, making the experience even more memorable.
Dylan said, ‘Warhammer is a fun hobby that I have enjoyed since I first discovered it at the age of six. It was a great experience taking part in the competitions, and I was surprised to come in first place in the Open event as the games were very closely fought. I think my votes for best painted army and best opponent helped me seal the win. Playing Warhammer is very much like maths puzzles as you must think about probabilities, set moves and angles. I also love the painting aspect of the game and I would like to thank Miss Du Buisson for running the Warhammer Elective as it has helped me make so many improvements in my painting skills.’
Congratulations, Dylan, on your fantastic achievements. We look forward to seeing where your Warhammer journey takes you next!
