Year 12 attend workshop introducing Higher Education

Brooke Weston Academy welcomed Jeff Chilton, Student Recruitment Officer at Aberystwyth University to lead a workshop with Year 12 students on an introduction to Higher Education (HE)

The focus was on researching and choosing a university and course, with the workshop being run as a music quiz. Jeff played 12 clips of 12 different songs and students worked in pairs, to guess the artist and title. When marking the quiz, Jeff explored different aspects that our students should be considering when looking at HE, from accommodation to key HE terminology and student support to differences between school and university.

Love2Shop vouchers were given as prizes for the winning team that correctly identified the most correct artists and song titles, with Ewan St Dickinson and Uros Krstanovic announced as the winners.

Post 16 Curricular Coordinator, Louise Hegarty said, 'Jeff encouraged students to start their research in universities and courses now and to start booking on to university open days when the open day session starts in the spring. Attending these will help students make an informed choice about firstly, whether university is the right choice for them and secondly, if the course and university they had in mind is suitable for them.'
