  • International Literacy Day

    Don’t forget that this Thursday is International Literacy Day when all the lessons at Brooke Weston will have a specific literacy focus and students and staff can donate a book in the ‘Take One Pass It On’ scheme. Books should be age appropriate and there will be dropboxes at the turnstiles in the morning where all the books will be collected. At lunchtime and after school anyone who brought a book in can choose one to take home and enjoy. Any unused books will be donated locally.

  • Student has the chop for charity

    Year 7 student Taya Powell has chopped her long hair off to donate for wigs for children with cancer and she has raised £500 for charity in the process.

  • BBC Click Team films at Brooke Weston

    A film crew from BBC News’s Click filmed at Brooke Weston for a ‘back-to-school’ educational feature that will be broadcast tomorrow.

    Presenter Spencer Kelly and director Talia Franco interviewed our Year 10 students who have used Minecraft in their technology lessons to bring abstract concepts, such as logic gates in programming, to life. IT teacher Ray Chambers, who has been invited by Microsoft to become an Innovative Expert Educator, was also interviewed about technology in the classroom.

  • End of an era as Mr Witt retires

    Brooke Weston was such a beacon of educational inspiration that Mr Gerry Witt travelled half way across the country to teach here for his entire 22 years in the profession. He targeted Brooke Weston after reading about its reputation for child-centered and innovative learning, long before such techniques became commonplace.

    Its push to drive educational standards and ambitions up, to the extent that a local child winning a place at university was no longer front page news, drew Mr Witt from the south coast to a county that he had knowledge of or links to. Over the years he has taken on many roles, including managing exams and latterly being Head of Sixth Form, guiding students in their choices of university and careers and ensuring that they make the best possible choices in higher education.

  • Miss West leaves after nearly a quarter of a century

    One of our longest serving teachers has left after nearly 25 years at Brooke Weston. Lisa West has performed a huge number of roles since coming to work in the sports department in 1991.

    As well gaining her degree, she has taught in the PE, Science and Design Technology departments as well as delivering the BTEC Health and Social Care qualification. For the past three years she has been Brooke Weston’s SENCO (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator).

  • Year 10 students celebrate A* GCSEs!

    Congratulation to three of our Year 10 students who have taken GCSE exams a year early, each scoring grades of A*. For Winston Ho and George Tysoe their friendly rivalry in maths spurred them on to excellent scores with Winston averaging 95.5% over two papers and George just one mark behind, but with one paper scoring an amazing 99% on its own!
