Year 10 students aspire to ‘think green’ during event delivered by Northampton College
A group of our Year 10 students recently had the opportunity to visit Northampton College to attend a ‘Supporting Sustainable Futures’ event. This event featured a day-long series of hands-on workshops by industry experts, delivered by Northampton College, utilising their state-of-the-art Green Skills Centre. The event included the well-loved ‘Big Rig Low Carbon Challenge’ as part of its ‘Ignite the Spark’ program, aiming to inspire students to consider careers in industries that will have an impact on the future of the planet.
Director of Humanities, Mr Houghton, said, ‘This innovative event allowed the students to gain theoretical knowledge of sustainability and challenged them to think about how they could aspire to tackle environmental challenges impacting various industries and develop the ‘green skills’ employers are looking for. The hands-on workshops and challenges not only educated the students but also motivated them to think critically about environmental issues and solutions. Our school is looking to put together a sustainability committee of students to see how we can drive forward school-wide sustainability initiatives.’
This event has undoubtedly sparked a passion for sustainability amongst the students, and it is hoped that this enthusiasm will translate into meaningful actions that make a difference and benefit both the school and the wider community.
