Year 11 student crowned County Champion!
We are thrilled to announce that Year 11 student Amelia Pilolo has been crowned County Champion at the County Combined Athletics event held at Corby Athletics Club. Representing Brooke Weston Academy, Amelia showcased her exceptional talent and determination, securing first place in the U17s Inter Girls Category.
Amelia participated in five challenging track and field events: hurdles, high jump, long jump, javelin, and concluded with an 800m run. Her outstanding performance in each event earned her valuable points, leading to her well-deserved victory. Amelia received a medal for her achievement and has qualified to represent Northamptonshire in the Inter Combined Events Championship in June.
The event coincided with a trip to Alton Towers for her Year 11 peers, a reward for their hard work as they prepare for their GCSE examinations. Despite the allure of the trip, Amelia chose to prioritise the athletics event, demonstrating her commitment and aspiration to excel in her sport.
Amelia said, ‘I made the decision to prioritise the event over the trip to Alton Towers as I was eager to improve on the second place I achieved in the same event last year. It’s a very special feeling to have won and to be the County Champion. My aspirations are to compete in the Heptathlon at big competitions like the Commonwealth Games and, who knows, maybe even at the Olympics one day.’
Amelia's dedication and ambition are truly inspiring, and we are incredibly proud of her achievements. Her success is a testament to the hard work and perseverance she has shown throughout her training.
We extend our best wishes and support to Amelia in her future endeavours. Her journey is a shining example of what can be achieved through dedication and a clear vision of one's aspirations. Congratulations, Amelia! Your BWA family is cheering you on every step of the way.
