Bite Back Campaign

BWA School Food Champions lead the way in Bite Back campaign

At Brooke Weston Academy, students are taking the lead in transforming school food culture through the Bite Back Campaign, a national movement that empowers young people to stand up for their right to healthy, nutritious, and tasty food in schools.

The campaign launched at BWA with an inspiring assembly delivered to Year 8 in Term 1 by a Bite Back Youth Ambassador. This marked the beginning of a year-long journey of advocacy, creativity, and leadership development for our BWA School Food Champions in Years 8, 9, and 12.

Our School Food Champions delivered an assembly this term to year 8 to round off the year and share what they have achieved.

Throughout the academic year, our School Food Champions have worked tirelessly to make meaningful changes to the food experience at BWA. They’ve held productive meetings with Principal Ms Haworth and the catering team, sharing student-led ideas and gathering valuable feedback. A school wide survey was also conducted to understand students’ views on the current food offerings.

The team’s efforts have already led to several exciting improvements:

  • Healthy Wrap Competition – Students invited to design a nutritious wrap, with the winning entry added to the school menu.
  • New Healthy Options – Carrot and cucumber sticks were introduced, along with salad dressings to make healthy choices more appealing.
  • Student Suggestion Box – A new way for students to share their thoughts and ideas about school food.
  • Healthy Eating Artwork – Creative displays around the school to highlight nutritional information and promote healthy choices.

The BWA School Food Champions are now looking to expand their team. If you're passionate about making a difference and want to help shape the future of food at BWA, get involved! Contact Mrs Chiremba, Head of DT, to find out how you can join the campaign.
