Students shine in a spectacular musical performance
Well done to our students at Brooke Weston Academy who, after weeks of dancing, singing and acting rehearsals, put all nerves behind them to pull off two spectacular performances of Legally Blonde The Musical to packed out audiences.
Legally Blonde The Musical follows the story of smitten sorority girl Elle Woods, who follows her ex-boyfriend Warner to Harvard Law School to win him back and realises that she has more to offer than just a pretty face.
Year 10 student Lilly Cockburn, played the lead character, Elle Woods, and her portrayal of the fashion-obsessed sorority girl was outstanding. Year 10 Lucia Clarke gave a memorable performance as Paulette, the lovelorn hair stylist and Year 10 George Salaman was a convincingly ruthless Professor Callahan.
There were several big song-and-dance numbers with the energy and passion of all the cast and ensemble shining through in their performances.
A huge thank you to the BWA Performing Arts team who worked tirelessly on putting the performance together: Director Camilla Kerr; Producer and Choreographer Dawn Willis, and Vocal Director Sophie Jackson.
The success of the musical also involved a huge number of people who went above and beyond to support the show, from the musicians to lighting and sound technicians, the Buildings Team, those helping backstage and all staff who lent a hand on the night of the performances.
Principal, Shaun Strydom, said, ‘This musical was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the rich and varied experiences that we offer our students. Encompassing some of the very best aspects of our school; outstanding teamwork, high energy and lots of passion. I am sure that anyone who attended will agree that the hard work, dedication and support of our talented students was evident.'
