Visitors from Unilever inspire the next generation of design engineers

Employees from Unilever visited Year 7 students and inspired them with engineering and science challenges, which were designed by the engineers at Dyson as part of the James Dyson Foundation.

The challenges included constructing a freestanding bridge out of spaghetti; strong enough to support a bag of sugar and designing and building a chair made from cardboard. Students also participated in an interactive work shop evaluating risk and probability statistics.

Science teacher Jess wells said, ‘The students were engaged with all the tasks presented to them and worked well together in teams to produce some great structural designs. We are having a whole week of STEM activities for students in the lead up to the Brooke Weston Academy STEMFest which is taking place next week.’
