Free Books for Year 7

Year 7 receive a free book as part of initiatives to encourage a love of reading

Our new cohort of Year 7 students each received a free book on their first day, as part of ongoing literacy initiatives at Brooke Weston Academy, to encourage a lifelong love of reading and to demonstrate the importance of reading.

Literacy co-ordinator Lauren Fitzjohn said, ‘We want to empower all our students at Brooke Weston Academy and arming them with a book on their first day paves the way for literacy success. Powerful knowledge was shared around how 20 minutes of reading each day can equate to almost 2 million words a year. Literacy was explored as a currency to success and links to our wider initiatives surrounding DEAL (drop everything and listen) and our new Sparks Reader: all collectively encouraging reading to be at the heart of Brooke Weston.’
