North Northants Community First Responders

Year 12 students learn vital life-saving skills

Brooke Weston Academy welcomed back former student Paul Nelson (Trustee) and Natalie Bangs, who both volunteer with the North Northants Community First Responders (NNCFR), to teach basic life-saving skills to our Year 12 students.

Community First Responders (CFR’s) provide a valuable life-saving service supporting communities in Corby, Kettering and the surrounding villages. CFR's are trained to provide a range of emergency life-saving procedures including emergency first aid, cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR), defibrillation and oxygen therapy.

Students took part in a one-hour basic first aid training session covering seizures, asthma attacks and panic attacks, as well as best practice for dealing with cuts and burns. The sessions were interactive and students were given information on the signs and symptoms to recognise in medical emergencies and were shown when and how to use a defibrillator and how to perform CPR if needed, with students able to practice their CPR skills on a manikin.
