BWA Christmas Card Winners

The winners of BWA’s annual Christmas card design competition have been announced

Well done to the young artists at Brooke Weston Academy whose work made the top three in BWA’s annual Christmas card competition.

Lavinia Craus (Y13), came in first place with her drawing of a traditional Father Christmas, winning herself a hamper of chocolate delights as well as having her design featured on the front of the Academy’s official 2023 Christmas card.

She said, ‘It is the first year I have entered the competition, and I asked my friends for ideas on what they thought I should draw. I used watercolours and then acrylic on my design, and it took me around four hours to complete. I was surprised when I found out I had won and excited that my design would be on the front of the BWA Christmas card.’

The runners-up both received prizes of chocolates. In second place was Natalia Bialas (Y7), with her design of an outdoor snow scene. She said, ‘I got the inspiration for my design from my Uncle who lives in Norway as it is very snowy. I used acrylic markers and completed the picture in around two hours in one sitting; I will definitely enter again next year.’

Evie Chambers (Y10), came in third place with her design of a BWA student holding a snow globe. She said, ‘I love snow globes and I knew I wanted to incorporate them into my design. I used a combination of acrylic markers, pens and coloured pencils, and it took me about four hours over the course of a week to complete.’

Head of Art, Charlotte Marriott said, ‘Students could submit a design in any medium. The art department whittled down the entries to six and then the Principal, Shaun Strydom, chose the top three finalists. We had over fifty entries this year, and it is always a pleasure to see how creative and imaginative our students are. Thank you to all the students who entered the competition this year.’
