World Book Day Celebrations

Staff and students celebrate World Book Day at BWA

Brooke Weston Academy really set out to impress again this year in its ‘World Book Day’ celebrations, with staff and students getting involved and celebrating their love of reading.

The school was transformed into a living library of all the texts that have inspired us as readers. Subject departments got involved with their themed costumes and decorations, with staff and students voting to decide the favourite theme.

Students were given tickets to send them to the ‘dark side’ to join the literary villains in the English department as rewards throughout the day from staff for engagement with work, amazing costumes and for following the BWA way, with students able to exchange their tickets for a book prize!

There were a series of activities held every lesson, dedicated to reading and celebrating the knowledge reading provides. There were also competitions and prizes awarded as staff and students had some fun celebrating the power of books!

Literacy Coordinator Lauren Fitzjohn said, ‘This has been a fantastic BWA World Book Day! The school is full of enthusiasm towards not just the fancy dress, but the creative activities completed in lessons. Each curriculum area had a tailored literacy linked activity embedded into each lesson and our students have been so engaged, rising to the challenge, and extending their knowledge and skills. It is so fantastic to be giving out so many book prizes – arming our students with the tools they need to inspire a lifelong love of reading.’
