Year 13 students sign up for 10k Race for Life charity run
Good luck to our two year 13 students who are taking on the Northampton 10k Race for Life challenge on Sunday 14th July to raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK.
Race for Life is Cancer Research UK’s biggest series of fundraising events and has raised over £970 million towards life-saving cancer research since it began 30 years ago.
Mikaela Dunnill and Scarlet Dawson are both new to running but have previously completed long hiking trips as part of the DofE Awards programme.
Mikaela said, ‘As part of our training we are running once a week for 3-5km and will gradually increase this up to 10km. We are going to be doing the training after school which will help us to de-stress throughout our upcoming exams. Our time goal is 1 hour and 30 minutes. However, if we can complete it in under this time, it would be amazing. We are going to be running side by side the whole race to provide moral support to each other’
Scarlet said, ‘We wanted to complete this race in memory of family members and for everyone affected by this illness. Every penny counts and if we reach our fundraising goal of £100 this will enable Cancer Research UK to fund biopsies earlier for a quicker diagnosis. Even a donation of £2 can go a long way and would be greatly appreciated! We hope that by completing this challenge we can inspire others to raise money for charity and perhaps even sign up for a race for life themselves.’
Thank you to everyone who has already sponsored Mikaela and Scarlet. If you would like to donate, please use this Just Giving link.
