GCSE Drama students were invited to the Curve Theatre in Leicester to attend a workshop and watch a performance of the musical Grease.
The students took part in a question and answer session with two of the lead actors, and discovered the training involved in acting and how they got into performing. The actors spoke of the numerous roles within the theatre and how necessary each one is when creating a successful performance, they were given a backstage tour of the Curve and discovered the preparation that goes into getting the set, costumes and props ready every day.
The afternoon ended with the matinee performance of Grease. Drama teacher Miss Kerr said ‘‘The day was a huge success, and an excellent insight into the theatrical world. It has opened the student’s eyes to the standard that is necessary to become a professional performer but also the hard work that goes into the creation of a performance from start to finish. All the students thoroughly enjoyed themselves and have come away from the experience with a greater passion for Drama and the Performing Arts.’
