Sixth Form biologists see autopsy video

Sixth Form biologists at Brooke Weston saw an hour-long autopsy video in preparation for practical dissection lessons this week. The subject of the film was a 17-stone woman and her autopsy, filmed by the BBC, focused on the effects that obesity has on the human body.

Science teacher Dan Hawksley said: ‘These students have already carried out practical dissections as part of their coursework but they have never seen such detailed dissection on a human before. This was sensitively filmed and handled but showed the real impact that being overweight can have on a body, causing symptoms such as diabetes, high blood pressure, an enlarged heart and pulmonary oedema, or water in the lungs.’
