BWA students take part in Trust Big Book Quiz

Well done to our students who took part in the Big Book Quiz against peers from other Trust schools.

The Hungry Games team, comprising Daisy Cook, Zahra Khan, Elizabeth Brydon and Millie Cleaver came in third place and Ms McCabe, aka Mary Poppins, won the prize for best librarian’s costume.

Students and staff dressed up as characters from their favourite books and award-winning author Dave Cousins gave a speech about his journey to becoming a writer. He talked about the inspiration for his stories and read an extract from his book ‘Waiting for Gonzo.’

Students asked him question, got their books signed and had photos taken with him. Then it was time for the quiz which tested their knowledge of a range of 20 popular books. At the end of each round, there was a fun physical challenge.

Prizes were awarded for the best costume from each school, best team costume, winner of the librarian quiz and student hero from each school. The overall top three teams received an Easter egg each and a selection of books.

Isabella Anne-Brown, who along with fellow student Melissa Broomfield won the prize for best Brooke Weston Academy costume, said: ‘I liked the quizzes a lot and the physical challenges because they were all quite funny.

Student Dylan Smith said: ‘It was a really fun day. You got to dress up and it was worth reading the books to get the answers. I also liked the physical challenges. My team had to wrap me up in tinfoil to look like an astronaut!’

Librarian Wendy McCabe said: ‘It was a fantastic day and our students have been working so hard since October, coming to book club meetings, working together as a team and trying to read as many books as possible.’
