Students attend MCM Comic Convention at the NEC

A group of 15 students who are members of the Graphic Novel and Magna Book clubs in Year 7 to 11 joined students and staff from Corby Business Academy to attend the MCM Comic Convention at the NEC in Birmingham.

‘Cosplay’ plays a large part in this event, where visitors dress up as their favourite characters. Our students joined in by dressing up as various characters including a pilot from Star Wars and ‘Goku’ from the popular Dragon Ball manga series.

Attractions included stars of TV, movies, gaming, and anime, with the chance to meet Michael Rooker from The Walking Dead and Guardians of the Galaxy and Mark Sheppard from Supernatural and Battlestar Galactica. Students also had the opportunity to attend a Jedi Lightsabre training academy with Star Wars props and Stormtroopers and to watch real life comic artists at work and buy memorabilia.

Librarian Ms Wendy McCabe said, ‘ It was great to see so many of our students making the effort to dress up, Cosplay is a cool way for them to celebrate a character they love and we saw some amazing costumes at the event. The Comic Con visit is a fantastic way to meet like minded people and there was a wonderful, friendly atmosphere during the visit.’
