Y12 Aspiring Professionals Programme

Free programmes for Year 12 on offer to support with pathways and routes into University

A representative from the Social Mobility Foundation visited Brooke Weston Academy to speak to some of our Year 12 students about the free, Aspiring Professionals programmes on offer to support with pathways and routes into University.

The programmes available include APP Employer Insights with the following sectors and employers: law and medicine; J.P. Morgan Finance; J.P. Morgan Digital; KPMG Accountancy; BP Engineering and PA Consulting Springboard.

The majority of insight programmes take place in London, where students will live in university accommodation, complete an internship at a top firm during the day and take part in activities during the evening and weekends. This is all completely free of charge.

Students will gain a rich insight into the sector and employer. They will be offered skills sessions on topics such as employability skills and networking, mentoring from an employee at the firm, and university application advice and guidance. The programme of support extends right through university until students are in gradate recruitment, and the support at university changes depending on what career they are aspiring to enter. Academic criteria to apply for the APP Employer Insights programme is 4 GCSEs at grade A (7) and to be predicted ABB at A- Level.

For students who do not meet the academic criteria for APP Employer Insights but would benefit from support, they can apply for the APP Reach programme. The academic criteria for this are 5 GCSEs at grade 9-5 (A*-C) and to be predicted at least BBC at A-Level.  Students on the APP Reach strand get a mentor from their chosen career sector, access to all the online career and university resources and invites to university visits.

Amber Colquhoun, Careers Lead & Teacher of MFL said, ‘This is a fantastic opportunity, and we would encourage all eligible students to consider applying.’

Students have until 12 noon, Friday 16th December 2022 to apply. They should email Miss Colquhoun colquhoun@brookeweston.org  or Mrs Hegarty lhegarty@brookeweston.org  if they would like to find out more, or if they require support with their application.
