Year 11 and 12 students visit the University of Northampton to find out about careers in the NHS
Some of our Year 11 and 12 students visited the University of Northampton for an Aspire Higher NHS Careers evening, which had been organised by Sana Chishty, the Aspire Higher Project Co-Ordinator.
The students listened to a talk from guest speaker, GP Dr Jamie Green, from the Delapre Medical Centre. Dr Green is the Associate Postgraduate Dean for NHS Health Care Education as well as an honorary senior lecturer at the University of Leicester and the East Midlands/ Northamptonshire CCG Education Lead.
Other professionals from the allied healthcare sciences, including adult nursing, speech and language therapy and physiotherapy were on hand for discussion with students attending the event to discuss their disciplines and routes in to these vocations. The team rotated across the groups of students in a ‘speed dating’ style following Dr Green’s introductory talk.
Mikaela Dunnill, Year 12, said, ‘The event has inspired me again about a career in medicine as I do know how competitive it is and this has given me the boost I need.’
Harrison Saini, Year 11, said, ‘Listening to Dr Jamie Green and hearing about psychology careers in the NHS and how this has changed and expanded recently was fascinating.’
