    Congratulations to Mrs Karen Hearne who has been appointed the Trust’s first Director of Science. Mrs Hearne is a very experienced teacher, having been at Brooke Weston Academy since it opened, and Head of Science for the past three years.

    She is looking forward to working with colleagues from across our Trust secondary schools to improve outcomes for students, sharing ideas and best practice between departments. The new role is about building relationships and offering support where needed:

  • Brooke Weston teacher is announced as runner up in the top ten teachers in the World at the Global T

    Brooke Weston Academy’s computer science teacher Ray Chambers has been announced as runner up along with eight other finalists and the only teacher from the UK in the global teaching competition to find the best teacher from across the world.

    More than 20,000 nominations from 179 countries were received for the Varkey Foundation Global Teacher Prize. The award, now in its third year, is the largest of its kind with the winner receiving a prize of US $1m.

    All of the ten finalists from across the world were invited to attend a ceremony at the Global Education and Skills Forum in Dubai where they attended workshops and master classes and the winner Maggie MacDonnell, who teaches in a fly-in Inuit village in the Canadian Artic was announced by an astronaut in the International Space Station.

    Brooke Weston has been congratulated by the Minister of State for School Standards Rt Hon Nick Gibb MP for being amongst the top state-funded schools in England for the percentage of students entering and achieving core academic subjects in the English Baccalaureate 2016.

    The English Baccalaureate (EBacc) is a school performance measure set by the government which allows people to see how many students obtain a grade C or above in the core academic subjects of English, mathematics, history or geography, the sciences and a language at key stage 4 in any government-funded school.

    After a gruelling selection process and a punishing one-year training programme, former Brooke Weston student Emma Turner has been awarded The Queen’s Commission in the Royal Navy and will shortly be undertaking her final assessments to test her suitability for flying training.
