Library Inductions

Welcome to the Newman Library. It was opened on February 7th 2002 by Gareth Newman (Principal of the Brooke Weston from 1991-1999).

We aim to provide a service that enables all users to maximise their learning, by providing a wide range of resources to staff and students.

Year 7 Library Induction

All students in Year 7 have an induction in Term 1 to find out about the library and how it functions, what resources are available, how to find resources, and how to use Access-It (the software used for online searching and resources). There is a tutorial on the library web site that explains in more detail how to use this.

Year 12 Library Induction

All students in Year 12 have an induction in Term 1 which aims to help students to settle into Sixth Form life in the Library. The tasks concentrate on the resources in the Library and how students can utilise them for the subjects they are studying. It contains information on the Dewey Decimal system and how to use Access-It when searching for A-level specific material.

Staff Induction

Notes from the Librarian on how to best use the Access-It system for finding resources in the Library. Explanations on: searching, borrowing, peer reviews, and new stock.
