Enrichment
At Brooke Weston Academy, we deliver a high-quality, ambitious education that prepares students for success in school and beyond. Our broad, inclusive curriculum is enriched with opportunities that build character, creativity, and confidence.
Through our Electives Programme, students in Years 7 to 12 take part in activities that promote leadership, innovation, global awareness, wellbeing, and community engagement. We also offer nationally recognised programmes such as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, CREST Award, Arts Award, Sports Leader Award, and Language Leader Award. In the Sixth Form, students benefit from the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), volunteering, and our International Experience Curriculum (IEC), which includes placements in local primary schools, meaningful work experience, and a wide range of extra-curricular activities and trips. Guided by our core values - ambition for all, high expectations, excellent teaching and support, working together, and contributing to society - we ensure every student leaves Brooke Weston Academy with their “Tickets for Life.”
Our Electives Programme offers rich experiences that develop leadership, creativity, global citizenship, and wellbeing. We celebrate the success of initiatives like the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, CREST Award, Arts Award, Sports Leader Award, and Language Leader Award. In the Sixth Form, students stand out through the EPQ, IEC, and volunteering. The IEC provides placements in primary schools, work experience, and enriching trips that build confidence and independence. This commitment to opportunity and personal growth is reflected in the achievements of our students, not just in their academic results, but in the way they lead, support others, and contribute to their communities. They show resilience, creativity, and compassion, thriving in a culture of high expectations and mutual respect. Every student is known, supported, and challenged to reach their full potential. Above all, we’re proud of how our students live out our values and leave Brooke Weston Academy ready to make a difference.
Our Enrichment Week offers a varied programme that takes learning beyond the classroom. Students engage in hands-on experiences that build character, creativity, and confidence—whether solving crime scene mysteries in forensic science, designing sustainable gardens, or performing at the Corby Cube. Activities span STEM, the arts, outdoor adventure, and career development, including bushcraft survival skills, engineering challenges, and football coaching with Northampton Town FC. These opportunities promote teamwork, resilience, and real-world learning, while strengthening relationships across the school community.
Our ambition is simple, to ensure every student leaves with the skills, knowledge, and character to thrive—what we call a “Ticket for Life.” We’re committed to raising outcomes, closing gaps, and creating exceptional opportunities for all. A key priority is enriching the student experience—through subject lessons, tutor times and assemblies, electives, enrichment week, culture day, and residentials—so that every young person benefits from inspiring, challenging, and memorable experiences that shape their future.
At Brooke Weston Academy, we are committed to delivering a high-quality, ambitious education that prepares students for success in school and beyond. Enrichment Week is a key part of this mission—an immersive programme that takes learning beyond the classroom and brings our values to life. Across a wide range of activities, students develop character, creativity, and confidence while exploring new interests and building essential life skills. From STEM challenges and bushcraft adventures to theatre workshops, university visits, and career shadowing, every experience is designed to inspire, challenge, and connect.
Miss Colquhoun, Enrichment Lead, shares: “The first year of our new Enrichment Week truly captured the spirit of exploration, creativity, and community. From forensic science and theatre to outdoor adventures and engineering challenges, our young people demonstrated exceptional levels of engagement, curiosity, and enthusiasm. It has been a joy to hear the laughter and see the determination and teamwork in every group. These experiences have created lasting memories, strengthened relationships, and showcased the passion and energy of our staff and students alike.”
Led by passionate staff and expert facilitators, Enrichment Week promotes leadership, teamwork, and community engagement. It reflects our belief that every student deserves inspiring, challenging, and memorable opportunities that shape their future and contribute to society. Above all, it’s part of our promise to ensure every student leaves Brooke Weston Academy with their “Ticket for Life.”

Trips and visits underpin the curriculum and provide our students with a broad experience of the world around them.
These trips may include visits to museums, art galleries, historic venues and places of worship, as well as universities, sporting arenas, the Houses of Parliament and language schools. In Year 7 and 8 students are encouraged to attend a residential as a year group, playing a vital part in bonding tutor groups and friendships.
For those seeking adventure, we offer a range of UK, European, and worldwide residentials, giving students the chance to explore new environments, develop independence, and create lasting memories 0 always supported by staff and experienced guides.
At Brooke Weston Academy, enrichment is a vital part of our mission to provide every student with a “Ticket for Life.”
We are committed to providing an enriching experience for all students, one that extends far beyond academic achievement. The programme is built around six core themes: leadership and character, creativity and the arts, global and cultural awareness, health and wellbeing, community action, and STEM. Students can choose from a wide range of activities, including nationally recognised awards such as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, CREST Award, Arts Award, Sports Leader Award, and Language Leader Award.
Taking place every Wednesday afternoon, it offers students in Years 7 to 12 the opportunity to explore new interests, develop essential life skills, grow in confidence, and engage with the local community. Led by dedicated staff and expert facilitators, each elective is a unique experience designed to inspire and challenge.
Electives are part of a broader enrichment offer that includes subject-based enrichment, PSHE, enrichment week, and a variety of UK, European, and worldwide residentials. These experiences are designed to broaden horizons, build independence, and develop the skills that universities and employers value most.
Participation in a rich and varied programme of extra-curricular activities is strongly linked to academic success.
