Governance
"Governance is about giving back with purpose, using your skills to support, challenge, and help shape a school that sits at the heart of its community. It’s a rewarding way to grow personally, professionally, and make a real difference to children's lives." — Stacey Kennedy, Co-opted Governor, BWA
Welcome from the Chair
Firstly, can I welcome you to the Brooke Weston Academy governance pages.
As Chair of Governors, I am proud to lead a committed governing board working in partnership with staff and school leaders to ensure every student at Brooke Weston receives the highest quality education and opportunities to thrive.
By way of introduction, I am Head of Finance Transformation for Associated British Foods plc in London and a qualified Chartered Accountant, though much of my work now focuses on people, development, and leading transformational change. I first became involved with the Brooke Weston Trust in 2020 as a member of the Audit and Risk Committee, initially supporting the Trust through the challenges of the global pandemic and school closures. This was a steep but rewarding learning curve, and one I have continued to build on in my role as Chair of Governors.
I am passionate about using the skills and experience from my professional life to support the academy, while also learning from the dedication, resilience, and commitment shown by our staff and students. Alongside my fellow governors, I look forward to continuing to provide support, challenge, and strategic oversight to help Brooke Weston Academy go from strength to strength.
Thank you for visiting our website and for taking an interest in governance at Brooke Weston Academy.
Warm regards,
Jonathan Wintle
Chair of Governors
Brooke Weston Academy
At Brooke Weston Academy, the Local Governing Board (LGB) plays a vital role in supporting strong leadership, holding the Principal to account, and ensuring high standards for students and staff. As a committee of the Trust Board, governors meet at least three times a year to challenge and support the school’s performance, safeguard its values, and ensure it is meeting the needs of its pupils and community.
BWA is part of the Brooke Weston Trust, a multi-academy trust. The LGB acts as a local committee, gathering insight and information that supports the strategic work of the Trust Board and helps inform decision-making at a trust-wide level.
Working closely with the Principal, Director of Education, the Governance Team and Trust leaders, governors:
- Help shape strategic priorities and ensure accountability
- Monitor educational outcomes and compliance
- Ensure pupil wellbeing, inclusion, and behaviour remain high
- Represent the local community and maintain strong relationships with families and stakeholders
We follow the Trust’s 4S model of governance, which focuses on:
- Standards,
- Safeguarding,
- SEND,
- and Stakeholders.
This ensures that governors concentrate on the most impactful areas for school improvement and pupil success.
Local governance is essential in upholding the Trust’s mission to ensure that no child is left behind, and that every student receives the best possible education and a ‘ticket for life’.
