Our IEC 4 Life enrichment programme offers students a dynamic and meaningful way to develop essential life skills, broaden their horizons, and make a positive impact on their community.
The IEC programme has been developed in response to an increasing demand by universities and employers for students with ‘employability’ skills such as leadership, organisation and management skills to support their academic qualifications.
Classroom Mentoring and Reader Leader, enables students to build confidence, empathy, and leadership through the “Inspire the Wider School Community” strand.
Students are encouraged to “Endeavour to Make Yourself More Competitive” by engaging in activities that promote independent learning and intellectual curiosity, enhancing academic and career readiness.
Charity Fundraising, Community Clean-Ups, and Sustainability Campaigns, foster a strong sense of civic responsibility, a core value of the IEC through Community Engagement
Independent Living, Employment Skills, and Finance workshops, ensure that students are well-prepared for life beyond school, with practical knowledge 4 Life.
Together, these experiences empower students to grow as well-rounded, socially responsible individuals ready to thrive in the wider world.
Success in Sixth Form requires more than just attending lessons — it’s about becoming an independent, reflective learner. Our Study Skills programme is designed to help students build the habits, strategies, and mindset needed to thrive academically and prepare for life beyond school. Students will receive support with these skills as part of their Sixth Form Induction and through tutor sessions.
Independent Learning
Sixth Form students are expected to take ownership of their learning. This includes:
• Using study periods effectively for reading, research, and coursework
• Setting personal goals and tracking progress
• Seeking feedback and acting on it to improve performance
We provide quiet study spaces and access to digital resources to support independent work.
Time Management & Organisation
Balancing academic demands with personal life is key. We help students develop:
• Weekly planners to manage homework, revision, and deadlines
• Prioritisation techniques to focus on what matters most
• Digital tools like calendars and task managers to stay organised
Workshops and tutor sessions regularly reinforce these skills.
Revision Strategies
Effective revision is about quality, not just quantity. Students learn:
• Active recall and spaced repetition techniques
• Mind mapping and summarising to consolidate understanding
• Past paper practice to build exam confidence
We also offer subject-specific revision guides and support sessions.
Note-Taking & Research Skills
Strong notes are the foundation of good revision. We teach:
• Cornell and outline methods for structured note-taking
• How to identify key information during lessons and readings
• Referencing and citation skills for coursework and extended projects
Students are encouraged to use both digital and handwritten formats.
Wellbeing & Study Balance
Academic success goes hand-in-hand with wellbeing. Our approach includes:
• Mindfulness and stress management techniques
• Healthy study routines with breaks and physical activity
• Support from tutors and pastoral staff when challenges arise
We promote a balanced lifestyle that supports both achievement and personal growth.
Our Sixth Form enrichment programme offers a wide range of opportunities designed to develop leadership, confidence, and real-world skills. These experiences complement academic study and help students prepare for university, employment, and adult life.
