Year 12 Mentoring in IEC
As part of the IEC programme, Year 12 students following the Inspire strand have been working as mentors across KS3 and KS4 this term. Their involvement has given them valuable experience in communication, teamwork, and positive role modelling, while also making a real difference to the learning of younger students.
In ICT, Mr Van Wyk has been particularly impressed with Jagveer’s commitment during a Year 10 Computer Science lesson. He notes that Jagveer has attended every session, focusing on supporting a specific student with developing their coding skills. The younger student has built a strong working relationship with him, and together they have made noticeable progress in independent programming tasks.
Similarly, Mrs Annable has praised the contribution of Kenny and Starry in her Year 7 class, highlighting that their presence has had a significant impact on the learning environment. She shared that she “would genuinely not be able to teach the group as effectively without them,” describing both students as “amazing.”
The positive impressions from staff reflect the meaningful impact the Year 12 mentors are having. Not only are they strengthening their own employability and leadership skills, but they are inspiring younger students to work hard, stay focused, and aim high in their subjects.
